Mindfulness is all the rage. It wasn’t that way a decade ago when I first discovered the practice and realized its power. Because it’s been a part of my life for so long, I’m thrilled it’s becoming more mainstream and others are finding a way to incorporate it into their daily lives.
It is currently being taught in schools, businesses, the military and a whole host of other venues.
Why now?
We live in a world of constant distractions and are bombarded with information, disturbing images and verbal conflict. Learning mindfulness skills helps us find the quiet space to decide where we want to focus our attention and where we want to let go.
It helps us become more empathetic and compassionate, skills that are very much needed at this critical time in our history. The result is a greater sense of focus, purpose and ultimately calm.
Try these three steps to begin your journey into mindfulness:
- Commit to finding at least a few minutes of the day to connect with your breath and be still. (Easier said than done, but so very effective)
- Try an online app or live class (like emindful.com online classes, where I teach)
- Contact a private teacher or coach for customized sessions
If you find the practice enlightening and want to dig deeper into the process, I’d love to have a conversation with you.
